Business Scholars Merit Scholarship

Fall 2022 Cohort and Prior

Please note: The 2023-2024 academic year was the final award year for the merit scholarship program at the Eccles School. We will continue to honor merit scholarships for students admitted to Business Scholars in the Fall 2022 cohort and prior.

The Business Scholars Undergraduate Merit Scholarship is renewed annually, and there is no separate application to apply. For the 2024-25 academic year, this scholarship will automatically apply to your tuition based on your University of Utah cumulative GPA.* Eligibility is determined at the end of the Spring 2025 Semester. Scholarship amounts will be determined based on the GPA requirements in your freshman Business Scholars admissions letter and the cohort year you were admitted into the program.

*Your award will be disbursed to your student tuition account in two equal payments: half of the total amount applied in Fall, and the other half applied in Spring after all previous awards have been applied.

What’s next?

With further guidance from university leadership, the Eccles School undergraduate committee will award scholarships holistically for the 2024-25 academic year.  Students must apply for scholarship consideration rather than being awarded automatically based on merit criteria.  The new Eccles Undergraduate Scholarship Application will open on Jan. 12, 2024, and close on March 18, 2024.

We understand that this shift to a competitive application process is disappointing for some. However, it allows the committee to select recipients based on merit and a myriad of factors that affect degree completion, such as financial need, personal hardship, extracurricular activities, work experience, and/or specific criteria set by donors. Although some scholarships have very specific criteria, the committee will strive to balance awarding both need-based and merit-based scholarships since funding is limited.  If you have questions about this scholarship process, please contact us at scholarships@eccles.utah.edu through your UMail account.

The scholarship committee will check your final cumulative University of Utah GPA standing in May, at the end of the Spring Semester, to verify your eligibility or adjust your award total according to your Business Scholars admissions letter and the cohort year you were admitted into the program. Recipients must have completed a minimum of 24 total credit hours by the end of the Spring Semester to be considered. Students will be notified of their scholarship offer no later than June 1.
