*Arrive early as 500 South near Rice-Eccles Stadium will be reduced to one-way each direction. We will start on time.

The University of Utah General Commencement is a campus-wide opening ceremony, kicking off many events across campus and serving as a collective celebration of the University community and the collective success and accomplishments of the graduating class. It will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

Business School Convocation

Convocation for David Eccles School of Business will be held in the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Friday, May 6 at 9 a.m. Students graduating from David Eccles School of Business will have degrees conferred during the Convocation ceremony.

Guest Seating

Tickets are not required to attend convocation and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Any interested attendees are welcome. Guest seating is available in all sections and rows of the Jon M. Huntsman Center not already reserved for graduating students or for individuals with disabilities. The ceremony will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. Families and guests should be seated prior to that time. Family members are not allowed to sit with the graduates.

Cap and Gown Orders

Candidates are encouraged to order regalia during the University Campus Store Grad Fair when special pricing is available. Grad Fair is scheduled Thursday, March 24, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.: Friday, March 25, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.; and Saturday, March 26, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Late-order regalia is available the week of convocation at regular price.

Graduation Celebration

Please join the faculty, staff, and University of Utah Business Alumni Board as they welcome grads to network at a graduation celebration for graduates and their families prior to the convocation ceremony, at 7 a.m. on the Emma Eccles Jones Plaza directly outside the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building.  Light refreshments will be served and graduates will have the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments, take photos on campus, and get premium parking.

Line-up/Seating of Graduates

  • Undergraduate Candidates should be ready in cap and gown by no later than 8 a.m. on the Emma Eccles Jones Plaza for the processional, behind the dean and faculty, to the northwest entrance(s) of the Jon M. Huntsman Center.  Please look for your department or major banner and be prepared to be lined up behind your fellow students as the processional makes its way into the Huntsman Center.
  • Master’s Candidates should be ready in cap, gown, and hood by no later than 8 a.m. on the Emma Eccles Jones Plaza for the processional behind the dean and faculty, to make your way to the west tunnel entrance of the Jon M. Huntsman Center.  You will be lined up outside of the tunnel to proceed into the arena.
  • Doctoral Candidates (PhD) should be ready in cap and gown at by no later than 8 a.m. on the Emma Eccles Jones Plaza for the processional, behind the dean and faculty, to make your way to the west tunnel entrance of the Jon M. Huntsman Center.  You will be lined up inside the tunnel to proceed into the arena. Your hood should be folded and carried over an arm onto the stage where you will be hooded as part of the ceremony.

Executive MBA Candidates will have a separate ceremony.  More information from the EMBA program will be sent to graduates at a later date.

Special Seating and Accommodations

Guests with disabilities attending convocation can request accommodations through the Center for Disability Services at 801-581-5020 (voice/TDD). Please give us reasonable prior notice to arrange the specific accommodations you may need. The ceremony will be captioned on the arena screens.

Wheelchair cutouts are located in each section of the arena in Row 31, which is level with the concourse. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis. As space is limited, please plan to arrive early.

Students participating in the ceremony that require accommodations should contact us at convocation@eccles.utah.edu at least two weeks prior to the ceremony.

Parking

Campus parking lots may be used at no charge during convocation.  Families are encouraged to drop off elderly guests and those who cannot walk long distances in the Jon M. Huntsman Center circle before parking their cars. The closest parking to the Jon M. Huntsman Center is directly south in the LDS Institute lot. Follow signs to determine available parking areas.

Photography

A professional photographer has been authorized to photograph all graduates and will mail a color proof to each graduate. You are not obligated to purchase these photographs. Please note that guests may take photographs, but will not be allowed on the stage, arena floor, aisles, or in the areas marked for graduate reseating during the Convocation ceremony.

Diplomas

Diplomas will be mailed from the Office of the Registrar to student graduates within four to six weeks after the degree is posted.
