The Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) is a national organization founded in 1972 with more than 160 active university chapters today. ALPFA was re-established at the Eccles School in 2018 by five key members: Eduardo Diaz, Victor De Lara, Fernando Herrera, Yansee Mata, and Rosendo Rocha. There are currently 240 active students within the University of Utah chapter. They are involved in many ways, such as mentors, leaders on the Executive Board, and alums who return to help with events and expand the ALPFA network.
Our main goal for ALPFA is to “empower and develop Latino/a men and women as leaders of character for the nation, in every sector of the global economy.” The organization has become a bridge for talented young Latinos and the business community.
“ALPFA’s purpose as an Eccles EDI student organization is to promote, celebrate, and develop cultural knowledge among our Latino students in business to harbor a community and sense of belonging,” said Chapter President Brenda Garcia. “Anyone who identifies as Latino/a, loves Latin food, and advocates for all aspects of Latinidad, or latinity, can join ALPFA!”
ALPFA is housed within the Eccles School but is open to all majors and colleges at the University of Utah. They offer members professional leadership development, cross-functional and cross-generational networking, career opportunities, and advancement. In addition, the University of Utah chapter specifically provides members a network of U alums and Utah professionals, resume and LinkedIn workshops, internship and interview preparation, and knowledge about opportunities inside and outside the University.
ALPFA holds events every other week throughout the Fall and Spring, so if you’re interested, join us! Find more information on campus connect and follow us on Instagram @alpfautah.
