Nelson Wilkins is a senior at the David Eccles School of Business, double-majoring in Finance and Marketing. Nelson is the lead intern for the Branding Marketing and Communications department and is an active member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, ADTHING, and the One Love Ski/Snowboard club. Outside of the classroom, Nelson enjoys staying active, photography, traveling, snowboarding, and developing his clothing brand.
In an interview, Nelson shared that his favorite college experience has been starting his own company, SKUR Studios.
“Fueled by my entrepreneurial spirit and passion for fashion, I took the chance of starting my own clothing brand,” he said.
While handling all aspects of the business, he has learned so much and credits this experience as being “one of the most rewarding things I have done in my life.” He has seen tremendous success and hopes to develop the brand even further in the future.
During his time at the Eccles School, Nelson launched a successful ad campaign for Skullcandy as part of ADTHING, and completed an internship at Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling this past summer.
While reflecting on his college journey, Nelson encouraged students to get involved and take risks.
“There are so many incredible opportunities on campus and beyond,” he said. “Keep yourself busy by taking on internships, joining clubs, and learning as much as you can both inside and outside the classroom.”
Nelson believes there’s no better time than now to explore new opportunities.
“Don’t be afraid to try something new, meet new people, start a business, or get out of your comfort zone,” he added. “This is one of the best times of your life to take a risk before life’s responsibilities start to hold you back.”
Nelson is excited to begin his post-graduation journey, where he plans to invest more time into his current and future business endeavors. He hopes to continue growing SKUR Studios and to explore other entrepreneurial opportunities along the way.
Ultimately, Nelson serves as a reminder not to let opportunities slip away or let fear be the reason for not trying something new.
