Kyler Zarate is a junior majoring in QAMO and Finance at the David Eccles School of Business. He completed a summer internship with Lucid Software.
What was your favorite thing about your internship?
The office in South Jordan and the collaborative culture in my teams were fun to experience—lots of emphasis on employee well-being and several clubs on site for various outside interests.
What was the hardest part of the interview process?
Several unexpected questions were asked to gauge creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. For example, I was asked a hypothetical question about how a pair of scissors could help me with pizza deliveries. I found that openly communicating my thought process helped me through the delivery of my answers, as well as not putting as much pressure on whether the answer was right or wrong.
What advice would you give to fellow students applying for internships?
Don’t lose your motivation to keep applying, and don’t downplay your past experiences and abilities. There are always opportunities out there, and any experience will benefit you.
Where did you hear about your internship (i.e., a career fair, your career coach, a professor, et cetera)?
I heard about this specific position through Handshake.
