Information Systems

Technology is vital to the success of every business, and companies need professionals who can deploy technology to meet strategic business objectives. Focused on the intersection of business and technology, the Information Systems major provides tools and training that differentiate business graduates in today’s technology market. Graduates of our program work in a variety of fields, including cyber security, business intelligence, analytics, project management, network administration, database administration and systems architecture.

Students wishing to further their technical education can also pursue a Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS), offered in person, online or through the BS/MS Information Systems co-terminal program.

Admissions Criteria

Conditional Admission*

  • Admitted to the Eccles School (Upper Division)
  • B or higher in IS 2010
  • B or higher in a college algebra course (or a higher level math course)
  • 3.3 or higher total GPA
  • Currently enrolled in IS 4410 or 4411 for the following semester
Automatic Admission

  • Admitted to the Eccles School (Upper Division)
  • B or higher in IS 4410 or 4411
  • B or higher in a college algebra course (or a higher level math course)
  • 3.3 or higher total GPA
Committee Review**

  • Admitted to the Eccles School (Upper Division)
  • Not eligible for Conditional Admission or Automatic Admission
  • B or higher in IS 4410 or IS 4411
  • B or higher in a college algebra course (or a higher level math course)
  • Total GPA between 2.70-3.29

*Submitting an application does not guarantee admission. A committee will review students’ full academic records and admit on a case-by-case basis.
**Students who are conditionally admitted must meet certain grade and GPA requirements to maintain their admission.

Admission to all Eccles School majors is subject to the Eccles School Repeat Policy. Submitting an application does not guarantee admission to the major.

• IS 4410 Introduction to Information Systems

Required classes:
• IS 4420 Database Fundamentals (3 credits)
• IS 3596 IS Certification (1 credit)

Choose 3 classes from the following:
• IS 4415 Data Structures & Java (3 credits)
• IS 4430 Systems Analysis & Design (3 credits)
• IS 4440 Networking & Servers (3 credits)
• IS 4460 Web Based Applications (3 credits)
