Abbey Salamera is a rising Junior at the Eccles School, pursuing a major in Information Systems and minors in Media Studies and Management. She is a highly involved student and is the upcoming CEO for BLinc (the business student government). Abbey is also involved in many other extracurricular activities and on-campus jobs, such as being the Director of Events for the AAPI Students in Business organization and a University Ambassador. On top of her involvement and academics, Abbey enjoys spending her time with friends and her dog Apollo. In an interview with Salamera, she states, “my academics and involvement have impacted me by enhancing my college experience by balancing my passions with my academic pursuits. I am able to live out my college experience by having a fun time. That sounds really cheesy, but ya know, it’s true.”

In the interview, we were able to better understand Salamera, her college experience, and learn about some advice she would offer to the Eccles student body. When asked about her favorite thing about her college experience, Salamera states, “My favorite thing about my college experience is my on-campus jobs and activities, because through that I’ve been able to meet cool people. During the covid era, there was such a lack of opportunities to meet new people and go to engaging events, but the events now are poppin’ (thanks to BLinc and AAPI-SIB lol).”

When asked about advice she’d give to other students, Salamera builds upon this aspect of on-campus activities, “Another cheesy thing, I feel like my one piece of advice to all students is to get involved in one thing that isn’t just going to class. As much as going to class is important, there is so much you can get out of the college experience by pursuing things you enjoy outside of school and find it in a place you chose to call home for 4 years or however many years you’ll be in school.”

Overall, we can take note from Salamera that involvement and being an active participant in your college experience truly enriches your student life. We look forward to seeing all of the great things Abbey will accomplish this upcoming year through her numerous involvement and endeavors.
