Congratulations to our Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute for being named one of three finalists in the American Dream Ideas Challenge!

Their proposal, called the Utah Coal Country Strike Team, is focused on helping Carbon and Emery counties, both of which have been hit by the decline in coal production since 2001. The team proposed creating a Silicon Slopes East in Price, which would revitalize housing, promote tourism, and create economic incentives to spur development.

The team earned $30,000 and will compete on Jan 29, 2019 in Phoenix. The three teams from Utah will present alongside proposals from The Ohio State University, Arizona State University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison for up to $1 million in funding from Schmidt Futures.
