Dr. Abe Bakhsheshy speaks on women’s leadership
The University of Utah Women’s MBA Association hosted a Lunch & Learn event on July 14 that included a presentation from Dr. Abe Bakhsheshy, Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative professor and director, and professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategy at the David Eccles School of Business.
This event was the third of its kind for the Women’s MBA Association. In attendance were 56 association members, all of whom are current students or alumni of the Eccles School’s four MBA programs.
Attendees enjoyed a catered lunch from Blue Lemon while Dr. Abe discussed women’s leadership. Within the topics and issued addressed, Dr. Abe spent a considerable amount of time on the challenges women still face as leaders in business, including differences in socialization for men versus women, the slow promotion process and glass ceiling that women still battle, and “male” language as opposed to “female” language. Dr. Abe also provided various reading suggestions to the group: Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg; Quiet by Susan Cain; and Flex by Jane Hyun & Audrey Lee.
