Five teams of undergraduates battled throughout the day Friday in the 2014 Undergraduate Ethics Case Competition hosted by the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative, and while the judges noted how close the votes were, there can be only one winner.

And that winning team, going by the team name Semper Verum will be moving on to represent the David Eccles School of Business at the national Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative 2014 Undergraduate Ethics Case Competition in Denver this spring.

“I’ve been incredibly impressed by the presentations this morning by all the teams of undergraduates,” said Dr. Abe Baksheshy, one of the organizers and coaches for the teams, along with Bonita Austin, Cole Holmes, Georgi Rausch, Jeff Nielsen. “The presentations were truly remarkable.”

The Semper Verum included (as pictured above, left to right) Stuart Jardine, Colton Matheson, Nathan Davis, Kimberly McDonough and Matthew Wooldridge, and they successfully their original presentation, and the surprise twist thrown at the teams, to come up with the winning presentation.

The judges for the competition were Darren Coe, Vice President of Operations and Business Development for Work Care Occupational Medical Clinics and a graduate of the David Eccles School of Business EMBA program; Bill Ball, president of Delta Fire Systems; Max Fiaz, president of Comet Enterprises, Inc. and chairman of AeroVisions International; and Kathy Esmaeili, a retail e-commerce executive entrepreneur and EMBA graduate.

The second-place team was Risky Business, represented by students Yiliang Shi, Gina Sombatsaphay, Bailey Jiang, Juan Salazar, Melissa Rodgriguez and Codie Zamora.
