Editor’s Note: During the week-long breaks in the fall and spring, David Eccles School of Business students had the opportunity to study abroad through the Eccles Global Learning Abroad program. Some of our students had the opportunity to travel to Peru and Guatemala. Below are a few students who shared their travel experiences and what it’s like to take classes overseas. Feel free to visit these students Instagram pages to see more incredible pictures of their travel abroad.

Traveled to Peru with Freshman Ambassadors
“The Eccles Ambassador trip to Peru was truly spectacular! I will never forget the experiences I had and the friendships I made. I enjoyed learning about Walmart’s supply chain with blueberries and how they manage the logistics of importing/exporting goods from the country. My favorite experiences were exploring the Peruvian markets while negotiating better prices for sweaters and hiking Machu Picchu. I am very grateful for all the opportunities I have been given to travel with Eccles Global as an Ambassador.“

Freshman Ambassador on Guatemala Spring Break Trip
“The trip to Guatemala to study social entrepreneurship was an amazing experience. I was able to learn about what people are doing now to make the world better through business operations. We visited several companies that each showed business at varying scales from family-owned pottery shops to the biggest tile producer in South America. My favorite company visit was to Eco Filtro, a company that creates affordable water filters to provide to those living without clean water. The company has been able to reduce carbon emissions in Guatemala greatly and save lives by providing clean water to children. It was interesting to find out that Eco Filter’s main customer is Microsoft, who donates filters to schools! My favorite activity was hiking to the Mayan temple ruins at 3:00 am to watch the sunrise and hear the jungle wake up! I am so grateful for the opportunity to travel with Eccles Global as an ambassador!”
