Milestone Advising Program (MAP)

Research shows that students who meet with an academic advisor regularly are more likely to graduate. To address this, the University of Utah created the Milestone Advising Program (MAP). This program encourages students to utilize their major’s advising office at key points during their time in college. At the Eccles School, first-year students complete the MAP advising requirement by attending a group MAP session.

Freshmen in BCOR 2020 will connect with Academic Advising in class to fulfill their MAP requirement. If you are a first-year student not in BCOR 2020, please schedule at (801) 585-7853.

MAP Advising Session

Who needs to attend a group MAP session?

All freshman pre-business majors with a Mandatory Advising VMA hold on CIS MUST attend a group advising session to fulfill the first-year MAP requirement.

If you’re unsure if you have a MAP hold, you can check your holds on your CIS account under “Tasks.”

Again, if you have a MAP hold, you will not be able to add any classes for next semester until you meet with an academic advisor.

If you do not intend to major in business, you will still have to connect with an advisor this semester to avoid a MAP registration hold. You can schedule a major exploration appointment here, or an appointment with a major-specific advisor here.

Yes. Please bring a laptop. If you don’t own one, you can rent one from the Marriott Library.

By the end of the session, you will be able to:

  • Run and interpret a Degree Audit
  • Build a class schedule for the following semester
  • Know how to apply to Upper Division at the Eccles School
