We’re excited to bring you our annual Eccles Inclusion Week – Monday, Jan. 30 – Friday, Feb. 3! Every year, we gather for a week of celebration, educational opportunities, and lots of delicious food – all focused on equity, diversity, and inclusion in our Eccles community.

What can you expect?

  • An interesting discussion about racial microaggressions with Amelia Stillwell, Assistant Professor, Management
  • A fun party with food, fun, and music at our Multicultural Gala
  • Tools to combat imposter syndrome shared by professionals from the US Department of Commerce, ShePlace/SheMoney, and Qualtrics at the “Breaking Barriers” panel
  • A discussion with Eccles Alumni focused on implementing inclusion in the workplace
  • A chance to explore and hear from representatives from EDI Resources around campus

From my experience, Inclusion Week is a time that allows knowledge to bloom, surrounded by growth and opportunities. My favorite part about last year’s Inclusion Week was the inclusive and safe spaces that encouraged open conversation and communication. It truly felt like I was being seen and heard by such a loving and supportive community. On top of that, the fun, educational, and interactive events helped me meet so many new people, including peers and professionals.

To reminisce on last year’s Inclusion Week and better understand what Inclusion Week stands for, I want to dive into what this week has offered in previous years from my experience. It was really thought-provoking to learn about neurodiversity and mental health progress within the workforce at last year’s speaker discussion with Glen Kreiner. This acknowledged and recognized neuro and developmentally diverse employees while addressing research, mindfulness, and ethics for individuals holding these identities.

In addition, the panel discussion on Championing Black-Owned Businesses in Utah was interesting and enriching to hear black business leaders’ endless experiences, efforts, and perspectives. This panel gave me information on how to be a successful ally for BIPOC (Black, indigenous, people of color) communities and businesses. Conversations and events like these produce a sense of belonging, community, and endless possibilities for marginalized folk, which help uplift our entire community.

Inclusion Week gives us all a chance to connect and have some fun as we increase our cultural competency as a community. Find a full schedule of events and details at Eccles.link/inclusion.
