MHA faculty accepts new position at Intermountain Healthcare
Jim Sheets is Intermountain Healthcare’s new Vice President of Outreach Services Development, effective July 30.
Intermountain’s Outreach Services are pivotal to their efforts to deliver on their mission and advance as a model healthcare system for tomorrow. As VP of Outreach Services Development, Sheets will be responsible for strategic development of Outreach Services, TeleHealth and Life Flight. He will also provide strategic consultation to some of Intermountain’s business divisions, including IS, Procurement and Finance, and he will collaborate with all clinical and regional operations throughout the organization.
Sheets has been a successful and inspiring Intermountain leader at LDS Hospital since 2007 — serving as CEO and Administrator since 2011, and previously as an operations officer. Among his many accomplishments are helping increase LDS Hospital’s overall HCAHPS score by 40% — to be rated at the 90th percentile nationally — and helping LDS Hospital achieve recognition as a Truven top 100 Hospital for the last three years. Sheets has led dozens of highly successful caregiver, provider and strategy initiatives.
Prior to joining Intermountain, Sheets held leadership positions for nearly a decade at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix and Enloe Medical Center in Chico, California.
Sheets earned both Master of Healthcare Administration and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Minnesota. We are proud that he is a loyal University of Utah alum as he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from the David Eccles School of Business.
Sheets assumed the chairmanship of our MHA Community Advisory Board in fall 2016 and also joined our faculty as an adjunct instructor. He team teaches MHA 6530 — Healthcare Administration with Dan Lundergan, Executive Director of University of Utah Hospital.
