Join the Accredited & Award-Winning Program to Grow Your Startup

The Master of Business Creation (MBC) is now enrolling globally in select locations in this award-winning program for entrepreneurs to grow their startup at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business. It is designed to be high-value and affordable for founders. Hundreds of founders have participated in the program. Participants need a revenue-generating startup to be eligible. Enroll in one of three formats: MBC Online (U.S.), MBC In-Person (U.S.), or MBC Global (Online). The program is provided by the Department of Entrepreneurship & Strategy in partnership with the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute.

MBC Pre-application

Please finish our simple pre-application first to help us determine if you meet our basic qualifications and help advance your application as quickly as possible. Submit the pre-application here.

MBC Program Application

Advance to this stage and complete a full MBC program application after submitting a pre-application and receiving an invitation. In the “Academic Program” section of the application, select “Business Creation (MBC)” from the dropdown list. Be prepared to respond to questions about your personal and academic background.

Bachelor’s Degree

Applicants must have completed a 4-year bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.

You’ll need to complete a course-by-course transcript evaluation through an NACES-approved organization chosen by the university.

This evaluation usually takes 1-2 weeks, but during busy times it may take up to 3-4 weeks. To stay on track for your preferred start date, we recommend submitting your application at least 4 weeks before the final deadline.

To start the evaluation, please include:

  • Unofficial transcripts from every school you attended for your bachelor’s degree
  • A copy of your diploma

Note: We don’t accept a 3-year degree alone. However, a 3-year degree plus post-graduate coursework may qualify. Contact us if you’re unsure about your eligibility.

Minimum GPA

Applicants must have earned a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA in their undergraduate degree. Exceptions to this requirement might be possible for exceptional candidates based on experience and need. To be considered for an exception, you can submit an application or contact us to discuss.

English Language Proficiency

International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. You can find more information about this requirement, as well as a list of countries where English proficiency may not be required here.

We accept the following English language proficiency exams with minimum scores.

  • TOEFL (iBT or computer version only): 90
  • IELTS (IELTS Academic only): 7.0
  • Duolingo: 115

Company Details

Be prepared to answer a list of questions designed to assess your enterprise. You will also be required to upload a pitch deck.

Short Essay

In 300-750 words, tell us about a time you overcame adversity. What did you learn from the experience? How have you applied what you learned to your life?

Video Pitch Essay

In no more than 6 minutes, please submit a video pitch essay for your company or nonprofit enterprise. In this video, introduce yourself, your company, the problem your company is solving, how you address that problem uniquely, how you compare to your competition, your team, a summary of your progress to date (revenue, capital raised, other measures of traction), and your plans for the future. Take your time, elaborate, and pitch your business. Don’t rush through the video. If your video is not carefully planned out and doesn’t cover all the questions asked, it could hurt your chances of being admitted. Think of the video as an interview.

Professional Resume

Submit a current, chronological resume. (For advice, see this resume guide.)

Optional Essay

You can upload an optional essay to address any perceived weaknesses in your academic transcripts or application.
