Editor’s Note: The David Eccles School of Business Ambassadors traveled to Guatemala for a cultural experience during Spring Break 2016. This is a series of 12 journal entries detailing their experiences. This experience is written by Michelle Van Bui.

Day 6 (March 16):We began our Wednesday morning at UFM and participated in a ropes course with the Guatemalan students.

We took part in team-building activities that revolved around leadership and listening. There were exercises involving obstacles on the ground and also in the trees! It was so much fun working with the UFM students to overcome all the obstacles.

After our visit to UFM, we were able to tour Samboro, which is a tile company in Guatemala owned and operated by Manuel Ayau. The factory ships product all over Central and South America as well as parts of the United States. To prove the company’s efficiency, they created a tile with a picture of our group on it that was extremely impressive!

After this company visit, we journeyed to Pacaya Volcano. Some of us hiked while the others rode horses up the volcano. The view was absolutely amazing, and it was foggy so it made it super cool! When we made it to the volcano, the volcanic rock was so hot that we were able to roast marshmallows! Being on the volcano felt like a movie, especially with all of the fog — it also made for some pretty sick pictures! Toward the end, we stopped by the lava store and bought volcanic rock made jewelry before heading back down. It was an unforgettable day.
