Professor Searfoss retired from the University of Utah in 2007 after having been in academe and accounting practice for over 35 years. He had also retired in 1994 from Deloitte & Touche where he was a partner and National Director of Accounting Standards with Deloitte & Touche and the predecessor firm, Touche Ross. His responsibilities included monitoring major standard setting projects at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)and American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), preparing the firm’s comment letters and presenting the firm’s views at public hearings on those projects, assisting in educating the firm’s professional staff and clients regarding those issues, and oversight in the development of related internal and external technical publications on accounting issues. He also served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the firm’s educational foundation, the Deloitte Foundation. Professor Searfoss has served as a member or chair of numerous FASB, AICPA and American Accounting Association(AAA)committees. In addition he served as the Vice President – Professional Relations of the AAA and the Vice-Chair of the AICPA’s Accounting Standards Executive Committee. Professor Searfoss provides expert consultant and expert witness services involving complex accounting issues. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Audit Committee of UBS Bank USA.
