Editor’s Note: The David Eccles School of Business is celebrating Women’s History Month by sharing the successes of women leaders who have made big impacts in the business world.

Gail Miller, the current chairwoman of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies and widow of Larry H. Miller, is the wealthiest person in Utah. After marrying in 1965, they began their empire by acquiring and renaming a Toyota dealership in 1971. As the former owner of the Utah Jazz and current owner of 54 car dealerships and the Megaplex movie-theater chain, Miller employs more than 11,000 people and has a net worth of more than $1.9 billion. In 2013, she partnered with the former First Lady of Utah Norma Matheson and former Gov. Mike Leavitt in a bi-partisan effort to increase voter participation through the modernization of the state’s election system.

Miller also presides over the Larry H. Miller Education Foundation and the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, both of which support both education and humanitarian causes. After Jazz player Rudy Gobert donated $200,000 to help furloughed team employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Miller announced that the LHM Group would “more than match this number.” In 2019, she was named “Utahn of the Year” by The Salt Lake Tribune and has received a Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Utah.
