On April 2, 2019, the Operations & Supply Chain (OSC) undergraduate program held a student and alumni panel. Organized by Program Director Dr. Sue Sundar, this event featured OSC students and alumni from Intermountain Healthcare, Intermountain Supply Chain Center, Goldman Sachs, IM Flash, L3, and E-Trade, was attended by current Eccles School students. The enthusiasm and participation in this program was evident as students questioned panelists and heard real-life stories of how the major prepared them for success.

Why OSC? Simple, it makes you STAND OUT from your peers

In today’s competitive job market, a college degree without specialization isn’t always enough to land you the job of your dreams. OSC alumni stood out over other candidates in their fields because of their specialization. The OSC major is a differentiator for companies looking beyond the basics for creative employees with cross-functional expertise in areas such as project management and planning, risk analytics, process improvement, procurement, operation research analysis, leadership, strategic sourcing, etc. Beyond the OSC major and the company experience, the degree offers courses that prepare you for certifications in Six-Sigma and Project Management Professional (PMP).

A degree in OSC is for problem-solvers

Alumni and current students touted the OSC program for preparing them to be creative problem solvers. This area of study prepares you for a career where no two days are the same, giving you the skills to take the moving parts of business, no matter the industry, and make it run in the most effective and efficient way possible. Some alumni that currently work in the healthcare industry shared stories of using their skills to find efficient and effective ways to obtain life-saving equipment, and the pride that came with having such a positive impact it had on patients’ lives. Professor Glen Schmidt, Chair of the OIS Department, reinforced the critical role of Operations and Supply Chain that forms the lifeblood of any organization in every industry.

A degree in OSC gives you PRACTICAL experience

OSC is the only undergraduate degree within the Eccles School of Business to include a capstone course. In your last year of the program, this course pairs you and other students with top companies such as Intermountain Healthcare, PepsiCo, IM Flash, GE Healthcare and other international companies to give you real-world experience to take with you after graduation. Salt Lake City is a major hub for top financial institutions and the healthcare and tech industries. The capstone experience gives students not only the exposure to work in a real-life industry setting but also an edge as they prepare to enter the job market.
