Sorenson Impact Institute CEO Katie Macc honored as one of Utah Business magazine’s ’30 Women to Watch’

Utah Business magazine’s 2025 iteration of its annual “30 Women to Watch” issue has been released, and Sorenson Impact Institute CEO Katie Macc is among the honorees.

The magazine notes that the awards are an opportunity to “shine a spotlight on the extraordinary women who are carving out legacies in our state.” There were more than 300 nominees this year.

Prior to her role at Sorenson (which is affiliated with the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business), Macc co-founded the fintech company Juntos Global, which served over 5 million newly banked customers across three continents. She also led grantmaking and impact investing across Africa and India at the Dovetail Impact Foundation, and spent seven years in microfinance.

“I am most proud of the journey I’ve taken to reach where I am today,” Macc told Utah Business. “Whether in Congo running a microfinance bank; co-founding a fintech company working in emerging markets; or directing grants and impact investments across Africa, India and Southeast Asia, each experience has expanded my dedication to creating meaningful change.”

She views Sorenson as a haven for applied research, innovation, and thought leadership that can change the impact investing industry. The Sorenson staff are taking a generation of students they already view as having a much more integrated view of the world, who are capable of seeing connections between spending decisions and outcomes in a way that prior generations never have, and they’re equipping them — through coursework, through internships, through practical application — to take into their careers an ability to see the world through a lens of impact.

Macc ultimately wants to make a difference on a global scale. Part of that is giving students the tools they need to help and then sending them out into the workforce prepared.

“Our North Star is a world in which every single dollar that’s allocated is done so through a lens of impact,” she said. “We are creating the world we all have to live in, so we should create the world we want to live in.”

This year’s honorees will be celebrated at an awards luncheon at The Grand America Hotel on May 29.
