Many of you have undoubtedly noticed a lot of “Love UT Give UT” messages in your Facebook feeds and email accounts lately. It’s time again for the annual fundraising campaign for Utah nonprofits and schools, and the David Eccles School of Business is part of the action once again this year.

Love UT Give UT is an idea conceived by the Community Foundation of Utah, one that encourages people from all walks of life to donate to their favorite charities—whether it be a school, an arts organization, a homeless shelter, etc.—on the same day via an online platform, www.loveUTgiveUT.org.

For the organizations involved, all the focus on one day—this year it’s Thursday, March 20—helps get the word out to potential donors. And the Community Foundation of Utah as well as several corporate donors offer incentives for the participating groups, such as matching grants and bonus donations based on the sheer number of donations attracted, no matter the size. That means a small organization that attracts a lot of $10 donations might earn bonus contributions thanks to the total number of donations they get, so every donation counts.

At the David Eccles School of Business, money raised will help current and future students pay for things like traveling to competitions and company visits, as well as scholarships. And Jibe Media is offering a matching grant of $300 if the school is able to raise that amount on Thursday.

Last year was the first Love UT Give UT effort, and more than 6,500 people from across Utah raised $800,000 for 357 different charities in one day.
