National Mean Girls Day: How to work with co-workers
Happy National Mean Girls Day!
Mean Girls is one of those classic movies that everyone knows and still quotes probably every day. If you haven’t heard of or seen “Mean Girls,” you probably live under a rock. Since today is National Mean Girls Day (Oct. 3), I thought I’d share a few business professional ideals.
10 tips on how to work in a team
- Don’t gossip. Gossiping with a small or even large group of people within a company is a probably a bad idea. Things tend to get back to people, even if you didn’t mean to hurt someone.
- Offensive language. What you say to someone that you don’t know really well might be offensive to someone, even if you find it funny.
- Network. We all have our favorite co-workers, but at least try to branch out and meet other people within your company or department. Meeting new people is always fun!
- Ask Questions. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, even if you think it might be a stupid one. Asking questions will help create a safe space for learning and your co-workers will like you just that much more.
- Always be prepared for conversation. Your co-worker might ask you about a project you are working on or even how your weekend was, so be sure to have something prepared to talk about.
- Don’t make fun of people’s food. Everyone has their own diet and foods that they like to eat. Don’t make fun of them. They could be on a diet or have a stress-out, all-you-can-eat buffet. Don’t judge.
- Own up to your mistakes. We are all human, and, yes, we make mistakes. But the best thing we can do is own up to them.
- Keep it cool. If someone hurts your feelings or you don’t agree with them, remember to keep it classy and to let everyone else know that you know how to keep your cool in a high-stress situation.
- Know what days to dress up. Know what days you really need to wear that suit and tie or dress for work. You don’t want to walk into work looking out of place.
- Finally, get to know your co-workers outside of work. Learning about your co-workers’ hobbies and interests will only make you love them more and appreciate them.
