“To be creative, you got to do something.”

At the Eccles school, we have students from all walks of life.  Many of us have done extraordinary, unimaginable things. That is because we live in a world where being ordinary is boring. Also, we won’t stand a chance in the competitive environment if we don’t create or innovate. Today, I encourage you to be creative in whatever you do at the Eccles School and in life. Let your mind wander and be curious.

At the Eccles School, we have many business students and professionals who are creative in their own ways.

Bronson Boyd, majoring in accounting and graduating in spring of 2017, is a true creative.

“Creativity only exists when you do not attempt the thing that is sought after. Therefore, my ability to attempt new things is not deterred by being unsuccessful, and that is why I demonstrate creativity. Though funny to the normal eye, role playing has been an influential part of my studies at the business school.”

Boyd states, “Whether by myself or with my perpetual study group, role plays have interjected various situations that otherwise would not have arisen but have helped immensely on tests and assignments. I believe that not being afraid of being wrong, continuing to try again, and role playing have helped me be creative in the business school.”

This powerful statement shows that Boyd has used his creativity to his advantage. By leveraging his creativity in the business classroom, he is able to take on imaginable roles that allow him to step into the shoes of others and think about what they would do from that perspective.  That’s critical to his success because he wouldn’t otherwise have the experience has now if he didn’t allow his mind to wander.

Augustina Tang, majoring in marketing and graduating in spring of 2017, also exemplifies extraordinary creativity.

“Throughout my endeavors at the business school, I have always wanted to make an impact by helping pull others up. This requires creativity, hard work, and an amazing network of people to make it possible. I founded the Women in Business club my freshman year and grew it to be one of the larger clubs at the Eccles School.”

Tang notes, “I still consider it to be my most creative and greatest achievements. Through this club, I have been able to make an impact on students through preparing them personally and professionally for their careers. Additionally, the club has made an impact on the community, through connecting the community with students or through volunteer work. This was something that I wasn’t sure could be done, but it was.  I hope that the club continues to make an impact on those in the school, and outside, as I disembark from my undergraduate career and into my career”

These words truly demonstrate what a creative Tang is and has become. Her ability to use her creativity to create something that means so much to her and others is amazing. Not many can say they have built something, but to say the thing they built became a success is beyond measures.

What are you going to do today to be more creativity? It’s your time. Create.
