Mentoring and Career Preparation
The University of Utah provided multiple resources to expedite sourcing potential careers. First and foremost was the Business Career Management Center (BCMC). The BCMC employs a career specialist who learned what I valued in a fulfilling career, and could help introduce me to prospective employers. The BCMC also prepared me for the interview process from application to final negotiation.
In addition, the University engaged companies interested in hiring University of Utah graduates. I attended on campus “EBIT” hours, interacting with executive level employees in learning the attributes they seek in a new hire. In addition, I visited local companies, gaining first-hand experience of the company culture and expectations. Finally, I joined my cohort in traveling to New York and San Francisco to visit a diverse group of companies and network with alumni.
I supplemented my career search with weekly informational interviews and networking with students and professors. As a result, I received two strong job offers, one as an analyst for a private equity firm, the other in mergers and acquisitions. I could not be more impressed with the mentoring and career preparation from the University of Utah.
