Courtney Talbot may have graduated in the fall of 2023 with a master’s degree in accounting (MAcc), but her accounting career is taking a slight detour. Talbot was drafted on Jan. 12, 2024, by the National Women’s Soccer League team, the Washington Spirit (Washington, DC).

Courtney is a Utah native hailing from West Haven and the first Ute to be selected in the NWSL Draft since 2016. She was selected as the seventh pick in the fourth round.

As a Ute, Talbot had an illustrious run for the women’s soccer team, garnering 14 goals and 15 assists over her 95 appearances—an assists performance that tied her for seventh place in the program’s overall history. Talbot was also team captain for her last three seasons.

Although accounting is on hold for now, according to Courtney, “Being in the accounting program at the U was a dream come true, and I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to go to school there. Go Utes forever!!!”
