First Ascent sophomores reconnect and recharge at cabin retreat
In late September, our sophomore First Ascent Scholars traveled to Morgan, Utah, for their annual cabin retreat. Javante Watson-Hall and program director, Victoria Cabal, led students through activities designed to develop leadership skills and explore the personal identity curriculum. The weekend also gave students a chance to reconnect after a summer away from campus and moving from the First Security House to Lassonde Studios.
“The cabin retreat was beyond amazing, especially because it meant reconnecting with my cohort,” said sophomore Ashley Sontolongo, “Through this experience, I was able to learn more about my own identity and more about my cohort which has only deepened our connection.”
The First Ascent Scholars Program cultivates, encourages and enables academically focused students with significant financial need to attend the Eccles School and connect with the University of Utah, local, and global community while reaching their full academic potential.
