Spring Semester brings specialized retreats for the junior and senior cohorts in the First Ascent Scholar Program. These annual events allow students to connect with each other, board members, and mentors.

Senior Retreat – Adulting 101

This January, seniors headed up to Park City, Utah. They spent the weekend participating in workshops and activities on financial wellness, self-care, and job placement to help prepare these upcoming graduates for the next phase of life.

“I can’t believe it is my last year already. It feels just like yesterday when I started summer bridge with my cohort, and we were exploring campus together,” said senior Anahi Guillen. “First Ascent, my cohort, and the activities/events we do have helped me stay grounded and make it through my journey in the business school.”

Junior Retreat – Reconnect

February took junior scholars to Huntsville, Utah, for a few days of team building. Learning activities focused on healthy ways to tackle difficult situations in university and post-grad journeys, and ways to implement self-care to build resilience.

“It was great getting the chance to be with my cohort again and take a break from schoolwork. It is always a privilege to have weekends like this every year to help us refresh, realign, and reconnect together,” said junior Manisha Adhikari.

The First Ascent Scholars Program cultivates, encourages, and enables academically focused students with significant financial need to attend the Eccles School and connect with the University of Utah community while reaching their full academic potential.
