The First Ascent Scholars Program at the David Eccles School of Business finished off the Fall 2022 Semester with two annual events — Fall Harvest and Winter Celebration.

These events unite students and mentors to bond and celebrate their work and accomplishments, and both feature networking, bonding over a meal, and activities focusing on gratitude.

“It was great being able to connect with different mentors and students on a day that means something different to each of us. Hearing their perspectives and learning more about their gratitude practices helped me reimagine and reevaluate what gratitude means to me,” said sophomore Brendan Tsang. “Every year, these events help me be more conscious and aware of how I show up for others and myself.”

The Winter Celebration also featured fun activities such as a white elephant gift exchange and an ugly sweater contest – this year’s winner was Helen Cardon.

“This is my second winter celebration with First Ascent, and this year was even better than the last. Seeing everyone enjoy the ugly sweater contest, great food, and the white elephant gift exchange was truly heartwarming,” said junior Jhareil Hutchinson. “Moments like these make me appreciate being a part of such a supportive and fun community.”

The First Ascent Scholars Program cultivates, encourages, and enables academically focused students with significant financial need to attend the Eccles School and connect with the University of Utah community while reaching their full academic potential.
