The First Ascent Scholars program at the David Eccles School of Business recently hosted its inaugural Ascending Mixer.

First Ascent alums play a crucial role in the experiences of these first-generation students. Their unique shared experiences allow them to provide mentorship on everything from academics to career choices. They also serve as advocates and role models, showing current students what is possible with hard work and dedication. The Ascending Mixer networking event brought them and current students together to exchange lessons learned, advice, and internship and job opportunities.

“It was a pleasure meeting some of the First Ascent alumni. It is great to see that I am a part of a program that really takes care of one another no matter how long they’ve been out of school. I can’t wait to be that person one day for other future First Ascent students,” said sophomore Anwar Shelali.

The First Ascent Scholars Program cultivates, encourages, and enables academically focused students with significant financial need to attend the Eccles School and connect with the University of Utah community while reaching their full academic potential.
