One of the most unique degree offerings at the David Eccles School of Business is our Master of Real Estate Development established in 2009. The program is one of only a handful of such program across the U.S. Its curriculum is designed to benefit students and professionals coming from various disciplines including land development, urban planning, architecture, engineering, sales, and more.

On August 22nd, the newest David Eccles School of Business alumni club for the Master of Real Estate program gathered together on the patio of the Madsen Café for an evening of networking and socializing. Hank Nelson, class ’13, says “one of the biggest reasons many people haven enrolled in the program is to take advantage of the networking opportunities.”

Several people talked about the education they received through this one-of-a-kind program. Brad Miles, class of ’12, Associate Broker at Prudential Utah Real Estate says, “I think it (MRED program) sped up my understanding of financial analysis, site planning, and deal structure by at least ten years.”  Miles, who has been in real estate sales for five years, comments, “This program has increased my confidence when working with clients, developers, and planners,” which has already proved to be a return on investment.

Alumni agree and add that having professors who currently work in the Real Estate industry helps them graduate with more confidence to tackle the up and down housing market.  Miles adds, “It was evident their experience, knowledge, and education helped them teach critical thinking and how to navigate the economy.” David Eccles School of Business MRED professors are working in the field and continue the relationship with students even after their graduation; creating a network to build success after graduation.

The first Master of Real Estate Development social was a huge success. Miles concludes, “I’m excited to see where my class of fellow students is in 15 years. I think great things will come from every single one of them.”

David Eccles School of Business alumni groups are very active here in Salt Lake, throughout Utah, and across the world. Later in August, we’ll be gathering in Oslo, Norway, and Los Angeles is on the calendar for October! Email us if you’d like to find out more about how to get involved with the network in your area.
