Business Career Services recently hosted its annual Doers Hired: Skills Match event. This networking event turns the typical career fair format upside down. Employers do not have company branding at their tables; instead, they post the top five skills they seek. Students check in to the event, writing down their top eight skills on a card, and then “match” with employers searching for the skills they possess. This method allows students to chat with employers and companies they might have yet to approach at other career fairs due to preconceived notions about the company.

The event was a great success. Many students said they felt more confident approaching employers because they already knew they had the skills employers were looking for in potential candidates.
