At the 2014 Golden Spike Awards, sponsored in part by the Greater Salt Lake Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, the David Eccles School of Business director of marketing and communications, Pete Codella, was named professional communicator of the year.

The award follows another prestigious communications award for Codella this year: the Communication Trailblazer Award given by the Utah Valley University chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America in April 2014.

The Professional Communicator of the Year award is given annually to a Utah Public Relations Society of America member who has worked full-time in public relations for more than five years and demonstrated exceptional communications knowledge, skill and ability. Members of PRSA and the Golden Spike Awards Organizing Committee nominate and vote on the award recipient each year. The award recognizes those who have excelled professionally and given back to Utah’s public relations community through volunteer contributions.

Codella was hired in October 2014 to lead the Eccles School’s communications efforts and build out a communications and marketing team for the business school.

“This is like the Oscars for local public relations professionals,” Codella said. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be recognized by my PR peers, knowing full-well there are many others who are very deserving of the same honor. It was a privilege to receive the Professional Communicator of the Year award and to have many of my new Eccles School colleagues at the Golden Spike Awards to celebrate with me.”
