Our Eccles community recently came together to make 234 dog toys for a local animal shelter — and grab a bowl of CupBop — during Pups & Cups, BLinc’s (your Business Student Government) first service project of the year!

Service projects are important to the Eccles community because it helps students have the opportunity to become effective and inspirational members of their community. We want to leave a lasting and positive impact on not just our students and community but all of humanity.

Announcing our New! EDI Leadership Award

With our first service event under our belts, we wanted to update you on our upcoming Student Leadership Awards in Spring Semester. Each year, BLinc highlights students and student groups who have shown outstanding leadership and commitment in the Eccles School throughout the semester.

This year, we are introducing the EDI Leadership Award. Applicant requirements are:

  • Attend three BLinc-sponsored EDI education/service events each semester. Make-up events will be available during Spring Semester, including during Inclusion Week (Jan. 30- Feb. 3).
  • Complete at least five hours of service with EDI-oriented groups on- or off-campus. Here are some partner organizations, but please don’t feel limited to these options:
    • Women of the World
      • English Teacher: (Tuesdays – Thursdays, Noon – 1:30 p.m.)
      • Mentorship: One hour a week for six months
      • Drivers: Volunteers who can help clients to and from appointments
    • Equality Utah. Please use this link to register for the following events:
      • Office work and data entry
      • Legislative work
      • Canvassing
      • Phone banking
      • Pride events
    • Project Rainbow
Transgender Day of Remembrance Memorial Display in early November. This event will complete all service hours for the semester! Please stay tuned to their Instagram, as they will post more information about the event as the date comes closer.
    • Guadalupe School
English tutoring every week from 7 – 9 p.m., but the hours are flexible. Training hours are required, but they count toward your service hours.
  • In addition to completing service hours, applicants must submit a two-page double-spaced write-up at the end of the year, discussing the significance and importance of the service you have completed, along with how you will continue to be a voice in your community.

This is a great way to build your resume and get a lot of free food throughout the year. And to cap it all off, top applicants will be awarded an iPad or an Apple Watch. Have questions? Contact blinc@eccles.utah.edu.
