Jan Stambro, senior research economist at the Bureau of Economic and Business Research (BEBR) in the David Eccles School of Business will retire this month after 30 years of service.

Ms. Stambro has specialized in economic impact and operation analysis and has overseen the Bureau’s many survey research projects during that time. She recently completed an analysis of the financial costs of transferring federal lands to the State of Utah. Other recent notable projects include a study estimating the economic contributions of the Utah Science Technology Initiative (USTAR) to the Utah economy and survey research examining the economic impact of the Sundance Film Festival.

“Over the course of three decades, Jan’s abilities have raised the bar for the work we do at the Bureau,” said James Wood, Director of BEBR. “It has been a great pleasure to work with her.”

Ms. Stambro is a past president of the Wasatch Front Economic Forum and has served on the Governor’s Task Force on Health Care for Small Business as well as the Editorial Advisory Committee for the Salt Lake Tribune. Her scope of work over 30 years includes research on several sectors of the Utah economy, including healthcare, tourism, energy, and research and development.

“Jan Stambro has been a consummate professional and exemplary economist at the University for 30 years,” said David Eccles School of Business Dean Taylor Randall. “Her impact on both what we have delivered to the community and those who have worked alongside her have been remarkable. We are very grateful for Jan’s contributions, will miss her very much, and wish her continued success in her future endeavors.”
