The University of Northern Colorado Monfort College of Business’s team of students took first place at Friday’s annual Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative competition, now in its fifth year.
Teams of four-to-six undergraduate students were asked to play the role of a consultant company to a major aerospace and security firm after it acquired a smaller, niche security firm. The parent firm’s board of directors was unprepared to perform well in the smaller firm’s market, leading to a lack of oversight and subsequent problems with hiring and firing, accountability, abuse of positions and more.
The 10 competing teams presented solutions to a panel of judges comprised of eight business and educational leaders, including DBJ publisher Pete Casillas.
The team from the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business took second, and the third place team is the University of Colorado Denver Business School.
