Summer is right around the corner, which means finals are even sooner. Don’t let your semester end on a bad note; use these helpful study tips to end this school year relieved and relaxed. Finals week officially starts on April 25, and you can find general exam dates here, but always double-check with your professors. Take a deep breath and follow these five tips for a successful study session.

1) Start Early

Don’t wait until the last minute to start studying. Begin reviewing material well before the day of the exam. Cram sessions the night before might seem intriguing, but they will only end with a headache. Studying early will ensure all material is covered and allow you to understand what is happening, rather than just memorizing words in a textbook.

2) Create a Study Schedule

If you are unsure where or how to start, break down your study sessions into manageable chunks and allocate specific times for each topic. This will make studying more manageable and less daunting. It will also help you stay organized and on-task and create a calm study environment.

3) Take Breaks

It’s important to give your brain time to rest and recharge. Schedule short breaks during your study sessions to prevent burnout and maintain focus. Reading day is April 24 this semester, so take advantage. Use the day to study or consider taking a little break, going for a walk, and clearing the mind.

4) Form Study Groups

Studying doesn’t have to be a solitary endeavor. Joining or forming a study group can be a powerful tool to enhance your learning experience and improve your performance on exams. By working together, you can work through challenges, view different perspectives on topics, and achieve a deeper understanding. Need to book a study room in SFEBB? Visit the front desk.

5) Attend Review sessions

Remember that no one is going to know more about the material on the exam than the Professor or TAs for a class. You should always prioritize attending review sessions! Get a better understanding of what will be on the exam so you know exactly what to study and how to be successful.
