2018-2019 BLinc Year in Review: Making friends and growing networks
The 2018-19 Business Leaders Incorporated (BLinc) board met in April 2018 and has come a long way since. This academic year was a busy year for BLinc, the student government of the David Eccles School of Business. Cumulatively, BLinc organized more than 35 events to connect faculty, students, alumni, and other community members to enhance the Eccles Experience.
BLinc began the school year with the successful Day Zero event. It was an event for incoming freshmen designed to help them get a successful start to the semester and encourage them to get to know each other and create friendships. These relationships with the student body are what BLinc values most in the work we do.
The next big event for BLinc was the annual Party on the Plaza for all students. More than 30 clubs, organizations, departments, and majors were represented at the party. It was a fun way for students to learn about all of the incredible opportunities and ways to get involved at the Eccles School.
In November, BLinc celebrated the most successful and most attended Eccles Gala yet. At this event, students got a chance to practice valuable networking skills and had the opportunity to connect with other students, faculty, and staff.
Throughout Fall Semester, BLinc also worked to refine the College Student Council and hold consistent network meetings for student leaders.
Beginning in 2019, BLinc started strong with Spring into Business — the spring counterpart to Party on the Plaza. Shortly after, BLinc partnered with the Runnin’ Utes men’s basketball team to host Ballin’ with BLinc. Many students enjoyed this event as they ate pizza, sat in a reserved section at the Jon M. Huntsman Center, and watched the Utes battle the University of Oregon.
Lastly, BLinc celebrated Eccles School Week in February by partnering with Salt Lake City Best Friends Animal Society. Together with the help of volunteers, BLinc was able to make more than 100 blankets for cats and dogs waiting for their forever homes.
Every month, BLinc held the Business Student Council (BSC) for students to voice their opinions and discuss different topics pertaining to the Eccles School. BLinc also stayed involved through volunteering at university-wide events including Red, White and U Day, Legacy of Lowell, the Garff Building unveiling, and more.
As a whole, BLinc is grateful for all of the opportunities we have had to serve the students at the Eccles School. With a new board selected for the 2019-20 academic year, we are excited for another great year!
