MAcc Program Alumna Drafted by the Washington Spirit, National Women’s League Soccer Team

Courtney Talbot may have graduated in the fall of 2023 with a master's degree in accounting (MAcc), but her accounting career is taking a slight detour. Talbot was drafted on Jan. 12, 2024, by the National Women's Soccer League team, the Washington Spirit (Washington, DC). Courtney is a Utah native hailing from West Haven and the first Ute to be selected in the NWSL Draft since 2016. She was selected as the seventh pick in the fourth round. Paper by Eccles School Accounting Professor Ed Owens Accepted for Publication

The Review of Accounting Studies journal has accepted a paper coauthored by Eccles School Professor of Accounting Ed Owens. The paper, titled "Accrual Duration," was coauthored by Ilia Dichev an accounting professor from Emory University. According to professor Owens, accounting researchers frequently study issues that require measurement of how well a firm’s reported accounting numbers reflect the actual economic activity of the firm (i.e., a firm’s “accounting quality”). First Ascent celebrates the end of Fall Semester

First Ascent Scholars recently held their 2023 Winter Celebration. Students, board members, and mentors all came together to celebrate a successful end to Fall Semester. The evening featured Secret Santa and an ugly sweater/pajamas contest. Always a fun event, this year brought the community together to recharge after a challenging semester.
