First Ascent Scholars connect at Arches National Park
Fall Break was a busy time for our First Ascent Scholars program. First-year and sophomore scholars headed up to Moab and Arches National Park for camping, canyoneering, rock climbing, and hiking. They also engaged in curricular activities focusing on leadership, identity, citizenship, and team-building.
Disconnected from their phones, social media, and texting, students were able to connect not only with nature but with one another, forming friendships and building a support network.
“I’ve never been camping before until joining First Ascent,” said sophomore Manisha Adhikari. “I am glad I got to experience this journey with them and my cohort.”
The First Ascent Scholars program cultivates, encourages, and enables academically focused students with significant financial need to attend the Eccles School and connect with the University of Utah, local, and global community while reaching their full academic potential.
