Day 3: Eccles Ambassadors’ adventure in Guatemala!

Editor’s Note: The David Eccles School of Business Ambassadors traveled to Guatemala for a cultural experience during Spring Break 2016. This is a series of 12 journal entries detailing their experiences. This experience was written by Truman Ballard.

Day 3 (March 13): Growing up seeing pictures of ancient archeological sites, I never thought that one day I would actually be able to see them in person! We spent an entire day touring the park of Tikal; we were able to see all of the major sites of the park, however, one could spend days exploring these magnificent pieces of history. Throughout the day, we were able to see gigantic Mayan temples that were more than 70 yards tall! It was amazing how beautiful everything looked from the top of the temples, as all you can see is the jungle with ancient temples rising above the trees.

As we explored the temples, we were able to see many amazing sculptures and artifacts that dated back thousands of years! Everywhere we went in Tikal was literally a piece of history that seemed to bring new life and understanding to my knowledge of the Mayan Indians. Tikal was one of the most, if not the most, amazing places I have ever visited! If you ever have the opportunity to visit Guatemala, Tikal is a must for anyone and everyone!
