Convocation Ceremony

The David Eccles School of Business Convocation Ceremony will be held at the Huntsman Center on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Students graduating from David Eccles School of Business will have degrees conferred, names read, and photos taken at this ceremony.

The Huntsman Center will open for guest seating 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony. Tickets are not required. Additional details for graduates and guests will be updated in January 2025.

Please note the University of Utah has a separate graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 6 p.m. Details for this ceremony can be found at commencement.utah.edu.at commencement.utah.edu.

Convocation Ceremony

The David Eccles School of Business Convocation Ceremony is Friday, May 3, 2024. At this ceremony, students graduating from David Eccles School of Business will have degrees conferred, names read, and photos taken. Please note the University of Utah has two graduation ceremonies. The University-wide ceremony is Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 6 p.m. Details for this ceremony can be found at commencement.utah.edu.

Huntsman Center Convocations

Eccles School Convocation Schedule

Location: Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building

Graduates, families, and friends are invited to arrive on campus early to grab a quick bite and take photos in your cap and gown.

Undergraduate Candidates

Undergraduate Candidates should be in their seats in the Huntsman Center no later than 4:30 p.m. Please sit in your designated section as directed by the ushers.

Master’s Candidates should be ready in cap and gown by 4:15 p.m. on the 4th floor of the Central Garage for the processional. Please look for your department or major banner and line up behind your classmates as the processional enters the Huntsman Center. Candidates for master’s degrees will wear their hoods with their gowns.

Doctoral Candidates (Ph.D.) should be ready by 4:15 p.m. on the 4th floor of the Central Garage for the processional. You will be lined up with the faculty to process into the Huntsman Center. Your hood should be folded and carried over your right arm onto the stage, where you will be hooded as part of the ceremony.

Executive MBA Candidates will have a separate ceremony. More information from the EMBA program will be sent to graduates at a later date.

Tickets are not required to attend Convocation, and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Guest seating is available in all sections and rows of the Jon Huntsman Center, not reserved for graduating students or for individuals with disabilities. Families and guests should be seated by 4:35 p.m. Family members are not allowed to sit with the graduates. The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. and is expected to conclude at 7 p.m.

The University has a NO bag policy for graduation.

No bags, purses, or backpacks are allowed in the Huntsman Center. Guests can bring a small clutch for privacy (no larger than 6.5″ x 4.5″). Diaper bags are permitted but are subject to search. Guests must have the infant(s) for which the bag is being carried present when the bag is searched. Bags for medical supplies are also permitted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Families and guests should be seated 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony.

Please review a list of prohibited items, including strollers, in the Jon M. Huntsman Center for the University Commencement and College Convocation ceremonies.

Guests have the option to temporarily store personal items (strollers, backpacks, purses, etc.) during the graduation ceremonies in the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER) West second-floor entrance northeast of the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Signage will direct guests to the storage area and security will be present at this location during the event.

Graduates are encouraged to order regalia from the University of Utah Bookstore.

Guests with disabilities attending Convocation can request accommodations through the Center for Disability Services at 801-581-5020 (voice/TDD). Please give us reasonable prior notice to arrange the specific accommodations you may need. The ceremony will be captioned on the arena screens.

Wheelchair cutouts are located in each section of the arena in Row 31, which is level with the concourse. They are available on a first-come basis. As space is limited, please plan to arrive early.

For information regarding parking, please visit the Parking and Transportation Page. Accessible entrances and parking can also be found on the U of U Campus Map by selecting the “Accessible” option from the Map Features drop-down menu.

Students participating in the ceremony that require accommodations should contact us at convocation@eccles.utah.edu at least two weeks prior to the ceremony.

Campus parking lots may be used at no charge during Convocation. Families are encouraged to drop off elderly guests and those who cannot walk long distances in the Jon M. Huntsman Center circle before parking their cars. The closest parking to the Jon M. Huntsman Center is directly south in the LDS Institute lot. Follow signs to determine available parking areas.

Please note that there is a .25-mile uphill walk from the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building, where the pre-ceremony celebration is, to the Jon. M. Huntsman Center, where the convocation ceremony is. It may be best for some guests to go directly to the Jon. M. Huntsman Center. Please see the Parking and Shuttle Map for ADA drop-off, campus shuttles, and parking lot info.

A professional photographer has been authorized to photograph all graduates and will mail a color proof to each graduate. You are not obligated to purchase these photographs. Please note that guests may take photographs but will not be allowed to do so on the stage, arena floor, aisles, or in the areas marked for graduate reseating during the Convocation ceremony.

The University Commencement ceremony will take place Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 6 p.m. at the John M. Huntsman Center. The General University Graduation Ceremony broadly honors the Class of 2024 as a whole. Graduates and attendees can anticipate words of congratulations from university administrators and student leaders, hear keynotes from the Commencement Speakers, applaud honorary degree recipients, receive a welcome from the Office of Alumni Relations, and wrap up the event by singing the University of Utah fight song in unison. There are two graduation ceremonies on Thursday, May 4, 2023. The Eccles School of Business Convocation Ceremony at 11:45 am. and the General University Graduation at 6:00 p.m.

Business School Convocation

Convocation for David Eccles School of Business will be held in the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 11:45 a.m. Students graduating from David Eccles School of Business will have degrees conferred, names read, and photos taken during the Convocation ceremony.

Guest Seating

Tickets are not required to attend Convocation and seating will be on a first come/first serve basis. Any interested attendees are welcome. Guest seating is available in all sections and rows of the Jon Huntsman Center not already reserved for graduating students or for individuals with disabilities. The ceremony will begin promptly at 11:45 a.m. Families and guests should be seated prior to that time. Family members are not allowed to sit with the graduates.

Graduation Celebration

Please join the faculty, staff, and The David Eccles Alumni Network Board for a celebration prior to the Convocation ceremony, at 9 a.m. on the Emma Eccles Jones Plaza directly outside the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building. Light refreshments will be served and graduates will have the opportunity to take photos on campus.

Line-up/Seating of Graduates
