John Gordon is an Assistant Professor at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah, where he teaches in the Operations, BSIS, and MSIS programs. He is also an Associate Instructor in the College of Humanities, teaching in the School of Humanities and the Writing and Rhetoric Department. He has taught college and university courses since 2018, beginning at Salt Lake Community College and continuing at the University of Utah since 2021. In addition to his teaching, he conducts research in Language Models, Code Studies, interdisciplinarity, rhetoric, natural language processing, databases, data analytics, data visualization, software engineering and programming languages, and the history of computing.
Gordon served 12 years on active duty in the United States Air Force and is a Gulf War veteran.
He brings over 40 years of experience in the computing industry, having held a wide range of roles, including system administrator, programmer, database developer, multimedia developer, software engineer, systems architect, database administrator, IT manager, data analyst, data engineer, chief information officer, and senior consultant. His professional work spans local and national government, nonprofit organizations, and commercial enterprises, including engagements with local, national, and international companies.
