From Classroom to Career: Highlights from the Network with the Professionals Event

Last month, the Operations & Supply Chain (OSC) major at the David Eccles School of Business hosted Network with the Professionals. This event brings students, industry leaders, and alumni together for a unique look into the significance of Operations & Supply Chain (OSC) roles in today’s fast-moving world.

Students had the opportunity to network with representatives from industry-leading companies, including IBM, Goldman Sachs, PepsiCo, and Henkel.

This latest event builds on a strong legacy of past panels featuring companies such as Intermountain Healthcare, HealthEquity, Adobe, Micron, and Texas Instruments. These organizations consistently highlight the increasing importance of OSC functions — from managing supply disruptions to improving operational efficiency and sustainability.

These professionals offered insights into the challenges and opportunities within their organizations, including how supply chains keep everything on track — from manufacturing products to delivering customer satisfaction. They also shared practical insights, career advice, and real-world perspectives on the dynamic nature of OSC roles.

Each organization shared its unique approach to operations and supply chain management, helping students understand how different industries tackle similar challenges.

Speakers at the event emphasized how OSC functions are critical to the smooth and efficient running of businesses — whether managing product flow, reducing costs, or improving customer satisfaction. The discussion covered key topics, including:

– Optimizing Supply Chains: Strategies for handling disruptions and building resilient operations.
– Sustainable Practices: The growing importance of integrating sustainability into supply chain strategies.
– Career Paths: How operations roles open doors across industries.

The highlight of the event was the opportunity for students to network not only with industry professionals but also with Eccles School alumni. Students shared how much they enjoyed these conversations, gaining valuable insights from former students who now work in the field.

This event series was created by Professor Sue Sundar, Director of the Operations & Supply Chain program, to give students an opportunity to meet and network with leading industry professionals.
