Utah’s housing market is on fire, but that is leaving renters and buyers scrambling to find a place to live.

Utah had more housing than demand for the 40 years from 1970-2010, according to James Wood, a senior fellow at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute at the David Eccles School of Business. But since then the need has outpaced inventory, and thousands of Utahns are now looking for housing in a market that can’t provide it.
