Women’s Leadership Certificate
With an emphasis on communication and leadership development, the Women’s Leadership Certificate provides you with the expertise, credibility, and confidence needed to make the most out of your career. You will gain insight into how other women lead organizations, explore current research, discuss innovative solutions, and walk away with research-backed strategies to implement immediately.
Over the course of seven classes, you will learn through a combination of lecture-based presentations and interactive activities under the guidance of top female faculty from the University of Utah David Eccles School of Business. You will experience this program with a cohort of other female business leaders; providing you with opportunities to share ideas, connect, and network.
Participants must complete an application to be considered for this program.
The Learning Model
In this program, you will utilize our ACT model to turn classroom concepts into actionable insights and real-world results.
Starting with a 360° assessment to gain a better understanding of your personal strengths and areas of improvement. Identify key challenges you are facing and how you can impact your organization.
Learn from Eccles School professors who are leaders in their field and network with your peers, who are leaders and trailblazers across a variety of industries, to grow your skills and network.
With improved leadership skills under your belt, drive change in your organization while inspiring others to do the same. Through action-based takeaways, you will immediate begin to make an impact.

Improve your leadership acumen and develop your skills for handling difficult conversations. Having the skill set to navigate difficult conversations is essential to developing your business, retaining employees, and maintaining positive professional relationships. Key knowledge in handling difficult conversations drives from understanding your own conflict style and those of your employees.

Interpersonal communication skills and emotional intelligence are critical components to gaining success as a leader. In this two-day class, participants will improve their interpersonal communication skills by using mindfulness strategies to work through a variety of challenging workplace interactions.

This class explores strategies to become a more effective leader. Focusing on who you are and how you work with others, you will leave this course with the next steps in your path to becoming a strategic leader.

Women face a very specific set of cultural expectations (from both men and women) when they sit down at the bargaining table. We have experienced significant social change in recent decades, but gender stereotypes have remained remarkably constant. This course is an opportunity for you question the status quo, examine what you truly want, identify obstacles that have been in your way, and learn how to create the conditions for your success.

One of the most critical skills of a leader is the ability to develop their employees through mentoring. Through this course, you will learn how to mentor employees as they grow into leaders who understand your company’s values and vision. You will also gain a better understanding of how to guide employees to perform at higher levels.

Communication excellence is an essential leadership tool. As a leader ascends in their organization, it is necessary for leaders to clearly communicate their organization’s mission, vision, and values. In this writing-based course, find your authentic voice as a leader and craft your own leadership narrative, as well as that of your organization.

Public speaking is an opportunity and platform from which leaders are able to express their emotional intelligence and it becomes a strategic position from which a leader can deliver their message with effectiveness and confidence. In this course, you will become a more persuasive and confident speaker who creates a powerful, emotional audience connection.
Pre-Work and Post-Work
In addition to live lectures, you will participate in pre-work and post-work, including lectures, activities, readings, and self-reflection. You can expect 2 hours of pre-work for each day of class, as well as post-work that ties into your next course.
In addition to in-class networking opportunities with your colleagues, you will participate in socials, dinners, and other opportunities to connect and grow your network.
You will receive a program workbook to guide you through course activities, as well as take note of those ‘ah-ha’ moments you will take away from the courses and your colleagues.
The University of Utah Women’s Leadership Certificate provides opportunities for you to grow as a leader and impact your organization.
All Women’s Leadership Certificate classes will be taught within a cohort. When you apply, you commit to the dates within the cohort you apply for. All classes are in person; with additional pre-class and post-class learning activities online. Classes are from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. M.T.
