On March 19, Prosperity U hosted Wade Roberts, PhD, and Ben Roberts, from Become More Charity as part of the ongoing speaker series. Become More Charity has a dual mission: to enhance fulfillment through gratitude, growth, and giving, and to bolster prosperity through health, education, and their innovative Fat Cow Initiative.

During their presentation, Wade and Ben shed light on the impactful work Become More is undertaking in Cambodia. In terms of health, the focus has been on providing access to safe drinking water, functional bathrooms with soap for hygiene promotion, and initiatives for feminine hygiene and dental care.

Be More Charity is especially committed to education. The Roberts brothers emphasized that many children in Cambodia were unable to attend school due to familial agricultural responsibilities and financial constraints preventing access to essential school supplies. Become More tackled this issue by providing incentives like attendance rice to encourage school attendance, along with donations of uniforms and bicycles for transportation. Their educational endeavors also include teaching financial literacy and English in select schools, empowering students with foundational skills for sustainable change within their community.

But how does Become More finance these programs? Enter the Fat Cow Initiative, a groundbreaking model designed to create a self-sustaining business that not only funds healthcare and education but also aligns with Cambodia’s agricultural industry. With over 70% of Cambodians already involved in cattle raising, Become More’s initiative streamlines the process, reducing daily cattle care from over 4 hours to just 30 minutes. This leads to earlier breeding, shorter gestation periods, and higher survival rates, resulting in a 5x return on investment compared to traditional methods. The program also integrates seamlessly with Cambodia’s Buddhist culture, as new calves are shared among community members, reinforcing the ethos of karma.

The Become More team left the audience with actionable steps to make a positive impact:

  • Who: Identify individuals in need.
  • What: Utilize your unique skills and advantages.
  • When: Commit to serving throughout your life.
  • Where: Direct your efforts where they can have the greatest impact
  • Why: To foster personal growth and help others Become More.

For students eager to get involved, Become More is seeking assistance in website design, video development, social media management, and research related to randomized control trials. Interested individuals can reach out to Wade Roberts via email for more information.

The final Prosperity U Speaker Series event for spring semester is scheduled for April 18 and will feature Efoso Ojomo, co-author of The Prosperity Paradox and Director of Global Prosperity at the Christensen Institute for Disruptive Innovation, and Ann Christensen, President of the Christensen Institute for Disruptive Innovation.
