The Prosperity Scholars hit the ground running this semester with their work with the West Valley Community Health Center team. In coordination with the University’s efforts to expand health services in West Valley, Prosperity Scholars are working to analyze and map the systems impacting the health disparities in the West Valley area.
To kick off the project, the students heard from Cameron Wright, the West Valley Project Director, and Erick Garcia, West Valley Partnership Manager from University Neighborhood Partners. Wright and Garcia shared the University’s efforts to incorporate community feedback into the development of the West Valley Community Health Center. The students engaged in the discussion, eager to learn about the issues affecting the West Valley communities. In the coming months, the Prosperity Scholars will work to create a map of the social, economic, political, and health systems impacting West Valley. The goal is to find leverage points that can be affected to create a larger change. This project will be an educational, hands-on experience, and an opportunity for students to impact their local communities.
