Congratulations to the MHA case team on their recent achievement of reaching the finals in the annual University of Alabama (UAB) case competition. The 2018 team included Mikayla Lymna, second-year MHA/MBA student, Aaron Fanello and Jeff Spear, both second-year MHA students. Two first-year MHA students, Amra Alibegic and Reece Pickering, also joined the team as student observers, and we hope they will represent us in the competition next year.
This year’s UAB competition included 43 teams from the nation’s top CAHME accredited MHA program. The Eccles School team was one of six finalists. They were in great company alongside the winning team from the University of Minnesota and runners up Rush University and Johns Hopkins University. Rounding out the six finalasts were Pennsylvania State University and University of Washington.
In the competition, students were asked to develop strategies for a rural Tennessee hospital, Jellico Community Hospital, faced with need to create a sustainable market position by aligning with community needs. Our team developed a comprehensive strategy including three primary elements: providing the right care, creating provider solutions and promoting sustainability through internal improvements and external community engagement.
