E-Bike Business: Kits to construct your new ride

Francisco is a member of the Doman S23 cohort, Finance Club, Latino Scholars Union, and Second Year Experience at the University of Utah. Although currently a part of the David Eccles School of Business, Francisco has always been highly interested in design. Interested by the design challenge and positive environmental impact, Francisco began building ebikes as a hobby. After completing multiple DIY ebikes, Francisco wanted to make more complex and powerful ebikes than were readily accessible on the market, which led him to the project that he is currently working on at Doman. He is aiming to produce a DIY ebike kit, complete with instructions and materials. Francisco joined Doman because he was seeking guidance for developing his idea. Just like the prototyping process, Francisco believes a project as a whole will require multiple iterations “just doing it, just trying it, you’re going to learn a lot of stuff that will be useful for your next interest.” He sees this project as the first step in increasing his willingness to try new things and take more risks. Francisco started this venture purely because it was something fun, but now he is dedicated to improving the quality of his ebikes with each design iteration. Francisco is passionate about providing access to hobbyists who have been unable to make substantial modifications or convert their bikes to ebikes due to lack of resources or skillset. Currently, Francisco is conducting market research and is looking forward to building his next prototype.
