Program Highlights

Flexible Online Format

The MSIS Online allows students to watch recorded lectures and complete assignments as their schedule allows, also providing the structure of frequent deadlines and weekly faculty webinars. Online course schedules follow the same timeline and rigorous curriculum as in-person courses. The rich career experience of our MSIS students adds dimension to classroom learning; working students also find they extend and reinforce what they learn in the classroom when they can apply it in their job.

Full-Time and Part-Time Options

MSIS Online students can complete the program at a full-time or part-time pace. Students attending full-time complete the program in 3 semesters (12 months), and students attending part-time complete in 4 to 6 semesters (15-24 months). Full-time and part-time students have the same course options, and students are able to adjust their course load semester by semester.

Business Career Services (MSISO)

The David Eccles School of Business offers professional career management services and an MSIS Online dedicated career coach to provide students with guidance on all aspects of building a great career. Students have access to an exclusive jobs database and one-on-one virtual consultations with their career coach, in addition to a career development course.

Hands-On Focus

For MSIS Online students, gaining hands-on experience through courses and projects is essential for starting or continuing a career in technology. Each course provides an opportunity for students to gain real-world skills and immediately apply classroom knowledge to real-life business problems.

MSIS Capstone

Online MSIS students complete a capstone as the culmination of their degree. The capstone is an opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience by completing a complex information systems project with the guidance of an IS faculty member. Completed over three semesters, the capstone is worth three credit hours. Find out more about the capstone.

Networking Opportunities

A vibrant professional network is invaluable to advancement in any stage of a career. MSIS Online students have unique opportunities to build connections with fellow students and instructors, including group projects in most classes, regular webinars, the capstone, and online social events. MSIS Online students who live locally are also welcome to join on-campus events.

Gateway to a High-Growth Industry

With an anticipated 10% growth employment of computer and information systems managers from 2019-2029, an MSIS degree in a state with a leading technology market has never been more valuable. Utah is commonly referred to as the Silicon Slopes, and nationally recognized companies are responding to industry growth by creating a strong presence in and around the Wasatch Valley.
